Keep your mod less than one by implementing strong hiring practices, organizing regular safety meetings and observing your drivers’ behaviors.

An experience mod below 1.0 lets your insurance company know that your business’ losses are better than others in the industry. For all companies eligible for an experience mod rating, your mod is the main pricing component of your workers’ compensation policy.

Mods are assessed by the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI) or your state’s Rating Bureau. These organizations evaluate your business’ loss and payroll history, and compares the data to other businesses of the same size and industry.

For a detailed guide that will help you analyze your experience mod rating worksheet, download our handout.
