Spotlight on Safety: Daily Express Honors Safe Drivers

On Jan. 7, Daily Express, Inc. of Carlisle, Pa., held its 45th annual Safety Awards Banquet to honor 222 contractors and drivers. Safety awards were presented for operating 12 consecutive months without involvement in a preventable accident. Only service years and miles while driving for Daily Express were counted. The theme of this year’s banquet was Flower Power.

Contractors Harry Shaw and Andy Seipel were honored with 40-year safe driving awards. Belinda McQuaid received the Contractor of the Year award and James Ireland was recognized as Company Driver of the Year.

Company driver Arthur Ingram was inducted into the Daily Hall of Fame. To qualify for this honor, the inductee must have 25 years of safe driving, and must have demonstrated distinguished service and honorable conduct as a professional driver.

Contractors Gary Byrum, Ray Gordon and Marty Rinebold were inducted into the Million Mile Club for driving accident-free for one million miles. Coordinator Chris Rabold and his Jacksonville, Fla., fleet were presented a plaque for winning the 2010-2011 Winter Safety Challenge.

Daily Express follows the official rules of the American Trucking Associations governing the issuance of safety awards.
